Take 2- Artist Statement

Drawing from the influence of stereotyped pornography, the objectification of the body and the experience of the self, exploring the idea of what it is to love the self and to engage, interact and be loved by others. Her use of the self portrait undoubtedly expresses “who i am” and “who i think i am”, it is a question of the construction of the self and thus what it is to be human and to exist, expressing the human transformation through influence of the other, that which is outside. The work is self referencing, both confessional and personal, delving into the narcissistic nature of the artist as both artist and performer/subject.

The work has been accompanied by written documentation of the artists personal experiences throughout the process of creation.

“I was on a little bit of a roll, an hour and a half of build up, slow down, climb to the next. Then the phone rang.” Again.
